Testing Tiny Turbo Turbines
Designing and testing turbines for the turbo pump I made in another video. Since I can't find any resources on how to optimize a turbine, I just print a bunch out and see how much thrust they can generate when hooked up to a propeller

3D Printed Turbo Pump

Designing, 3D printing, and testing a turbo pump for injecting fuel and air into a rocket. Rocket Cooling, Featuring the Jack-o-Rocket
Переглядів 16 тис.2 роки тому
Trying to make a Pumpkin into a rocket only sounds like a dumb idea because it is. The “rocket” is fueled by rubbing alcohol and air injected by a resin printed swirl injector. The hope was that the pumpkin would char and burn slowly where two liter bottles have quickly melted. Sadly the need for running at a low pressure and the steam being released from the pumpkin made sustaining a flame, le...

Can a Lead Knife Split a Bullet? -Material Science Knives

It occurred to me that I didn't fully understand why some metals are stronger than others. So in this video I wanted to find out, and then test it in a more fun way than anything strictly scientific. I cast knives out of two metals; Aluminum, and Lead, forged one out of steel, and printed one out of plastic. My goal was to learn why their strengths varied so much, and see if they can split a bu...

You can improve a lot the efficiency of the turbine by making it spin faster, this is because the smaller a turbine is the faster it needs to spin to have high efficiencies. (you can guess the optimal speed by looking at the Balje diagram for turbines and adimensional theory of fluid machines)

Are you using a barske? I reccomend reading Centrifugal Pumps: Design and Analysis Ch.11. Keep in mind you are reading shutoff head with your static pressure test, your pressure will drop woth more flow rate.

more even air injection. more axial air injection? try not to have a stagnation point on the wall as it blows away the film and creates a local hot spot by making the area burn lean.

you should get a check valve for the fuel side, but thats basically what an injector is, but could allow for the pressure to first build up, before opening up, and releasing your desired fuel pressure, and then no need to have to mess around optimizing turbo pump, and especially to after you said you have like 150ft of tubing to play with. You can get that punch with out having the length.

One idea that works is to hook the air compressor to a soda bottle than can withstand high pressure. Then you have a different hose which pumps the fuel out. Basically you pump 80psi air in which pushes fuel out of the bottle at 80psi. You will need another compressor, though ive tested this with cheap tyre air compressors and it works. Its the same principle as fuel pumps, which cause a high pressure in the fuel tank which forces the liquid out of the tank through a hose

search term you should loo for : " radial turbine velocity triangle" equations are time consuming to solve and not simple , that the rason for they use CFD. but the principle is that the air comes at a vectorial angle that depend on lift of the blade speed of the air and pressure. You should considere that each blade is actualy a wing that curve arround the axle torque and speed will also depend on the radius of course, and it will vari from the whole radius. the principal is th same as a propeler whre you trust depend on angl of atack naca profile and radius and pitch at each distance of the center. so you have to figure out te formula for a particular point on th radius an itegrate all the point (integral equation)
